“Energy has never been greener.”
That’s the tagline from Bioo, a company that has developed a houseplant that can charge your phone. That’s right. The plant itself generates enough power to actually recharge any smartphone.
So how does it work?
To put it simply, the Bioo Lite’s leaves act as solar panels and harness energy from photosynthesis.
According to a video from NowThis, “Microorganisms living in the pot break down compounds made by the plant into electrons.”
Bioo’s website says enough energy can be generated to provide two to three charges per day.
Each light comes with a camouflaged USB port in the pot that fits any phone. So whether you’re Team Apple or Team Samsung, you can take advantage of this cleaner, greener technology.
The company has already vastly exceeded its Indiegogo crowd funding goal and expects the first Bioo Lites to hit the market this December.
Expanding this concept to other home products could lead to new innovations in energy production, as well as new avenues to reduce our need of fossil fuels.
