Janice Dickinson’s Lawyer Files Opposition To Bill Cosby’s Deposition Appeal

Model Janice Dickinson’s lawyers have filed a motion of opposition to an appeal halting embattled comedian Bill Cosby’s deposition in her defamation lawsuit.

Dickinson launched legal action against the former The Cosby Show star in May after his attorney Martin Singer called her rape allegation against Cosby in November, 2014, “a lie.”

Her lawyer Lisa Bloom was set to quiz the comedian and Singer, who is no longer Cosby’s legal representative, later this month, but the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Los Angeles issued an order delaying both rounds of questioning after the funnyman’s legal team challenged the deposition ruling.

On Friday, Bloom filed an opposition to the appeal, insisting the deposition is necessary to prove her case.

“Only via the depositions ordered… may Plaintiff/Respondent establish facts that Defendant/Petitioner Cosby knew about, directed, approved and ratified the Defamatory Press Statements issued in his name and on which he was (carbon copied in an email),” the motion read.

“Plaintiff/Respondent Janice Dickinson is in a Catch-22 without the limited depositions sought on this motion. She is required to offer admissible evidence in support of each element of her defamation claim, including malice… Yet, because discovery has been stayed… she is unable to obtain the best evidence of malice.”

Cosby and Singer have until the end of the month to respond to Bloom’s filing.

Dickinson alleges Cosby drugged and raped her in Lake Tahoe, California, in 1982. More than 40 women have made similar allegations of sexual assault or abuse against the comedian in the past 14 months.
