Katy Perry Released The Most Katy Perry Christmas Song You Can Imagine
On Tuesday, international pop superstar Katy Perry released a new Christmas song, “Every Day Is A Holiday,” in collaboration with retailer H&M’s #HappyAndMerry campaign. The catchy track, reminiscent of “Birthday” from Perry’s Prism album, proclaims, “Every day is a holiday when you’re the reason to celebrate.”
Perry told Yahoo Style that she entered into the collaboration due to her appreciation for the chain, saying “I swear, I’m not pitching anything to you here, but when I was a teenager we didn’t have a lot of money, and H&M really changed the game for me.”
The song was released with an accompanying video and as should be expected from Perry, it’s full of surrealistic Christmas imagery including Left Shark-like dancing teddy bears in ugly sweaters, dancing Christmas ornaments and trees, a red convertible, and a polar bear. Perry herself appears in numerous exorbitant holiday costumes including a Victorian dress, a marching band-leader, and a fairy complete with wings.
The video isn’t all Holiday cheer however, as Perry seemingly uses the medium to fire another shot in her long-running rivalry with fellow megastar Taylor Swift.
At the :57 mark of the video, an attractive shirtless male model wearing a Santa Claus hat appears straddling the hood of a red convertible. Said model is Sean O’Pry, who played Swift’s love interest/antagonist in the video for her 2014 single “Blank Space.”
Suffice to say, it’s doubtful Perry and Swift will be exchanging Christmas cards this holiday season.
