San Diego Comic Con was filled with huge surprises and releases, but none of them could possibly match the big screen size of one of film’s most recognizable faces.
Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled the larger-than-life first look at Kong: Skull Island, a reboot to the failed King Kong franchise helmed by Peter Jackson in 2005. This time around, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman venture to a mysterious island where they encounter a giant gorilla angry with foreign invaders coming to its home.
“This planet doesn’t belong to us. Ancient species owned this Earth long before mankind,” says Goodman’s character, Randa.
Kong: Skull Island was written by Max Borenstein and Derek Connolly, who worked on 2014’s Godzilla remake and Jurassic World, respectively. Skull Island is reportedly the second in a series of films that will see Godzilla and King Kong face against one another. Godzilla 2 is scheduled for March 22, 2019, and Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled for May 29, 2020.
Watch the heart-pounding trailer below. Kong: Skull Island hits theaters March 10, 2017.
