La La Land dominated the 22nd Critics‘ Choice Awards on Sunday, winning eight top honors, including Best Picture.

The period movie musical headed into the first big event in the 2017 awards season with 12 nominations and it quickly racked up the prizes, with filmmaker Damien Chazelle taking Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, a category in which he tied with Kenneth Lonergan for Manchester by the Sea.

La La Land also claimed Best Song, Best Score, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Editing, but it was a shut out for its leading stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who lost out to Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) and Natalie Portman (Jackie) for the Best Actor and Best Actress titles, respectively.

However, Chazelle returned to the stage at the end of the show to collect La La Land’s biggest win, for the prestigious Best Picture.

In the TV categories, The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story was a four-time winner, while Westworld, Game of Thrones, and Silicon Valley scored key honors, too.

Meanwhile, there were also special awards for Best Supporting Actress winner Viola Davis, who was presented with the first ever #SeeHer prize, recognizing powerful women in entertainment, and Ryan Reynolds, who accepted the Entertainment Weekly title of Entertainer of the Year.

The ceremony, organized by members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, was hosted by comedy actor T.J. Miller at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
