Lightning Demolishes Pole in Chicago, Reminds Us Mother Nature Run da World

We’re just pawns in Mother Nature’s game.

That’s the stark reminder in a video uploaded to YouTube from Anja Englert in Chicago, who was filming while driving (probably not smart) as a severe thunderstorm passed over the Windy City on July 24. As Englert drives through heavy rain, lightning strikes, nay utterly obliterates a wooden pole along the street.

For added effect, Englert slows the video down revealing an incredibly bright flash of light and singed scraps of wood as they slowly fly through the air.

Bow down, human peasants. The queen has spoken.

And in case you missed it, that storm system brought severe weather to the East Coast on Monday, where lightning was captured on film striking the Empire State Building in New York City.
