Nothing is worse than going to eat an avocado and finding out it isn’t ripe yet. Thanks to this new trick, you’ll never have that problem again!
To make the magic happen you’ll need about ten minutes, a baking sheet, some tin foil, and an unripe avocado.
First, set your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare the unripe avocado by covering it with tin foil and setting it on the baking sheet. Once the oven is at the correct temperature, place the avocado in the oven and set a timer for 10 minutes.
While the avocado is transforming, take some time to prep your other ingredients. After 10 minutes, allow the avocado to cool down to room temperature. You can even stick it in the fridge to help speed the cooling process up.
While the hack is proven to work pretty well, some avocados might not take to the trick as well. It could take some additional time in the oven for them to come to the proper consistency.
So, what’s the magic behind this wonderful trick? Avocados release a gas called ethylene that allows the fruit to become softer and ripe. The gas is normally released at a slow pace, allowing the avocado to ripen over a few days. However, when the tin foil is wrapped around the avocado, it traps in the heat allowing the process to speed up. If you are not in a hurry but still want a ripe avocado faster than normal, place the avocado in a paper bag to have a similar outcome.
