Grandkids all across the world, take note.
As birthday-card-culture has desensitized many of us to gift-giving, it’s refreshing to see someone pull out all the stops to give someone a truly unique birthday present. David Goodings is one such young man. He decided to give his grandmother Iris Howard, affectionately called “Nan,” who was celebrating her 86th birthday, a surprise gift she could have never expected. As he picks her up in his car, they begin listening to the radio when suddenly, the station’s broadcaster interrupts the tunes to deliver some “breaking news.”
Watch what happens:
Not only does the broadcaster give her a shoutout, but he follows up with a collection of well-wishes from Howard’s family and friends.
Then, Goodings expresses his defeat at not being able to get a message from his Nan’s brother, who lives in Australia, so after the messages are over he switches over to another radio station…and lo and behold, there’s her brother, sending his birthday wishes along with a brief, lovely anecdote about growing up with Howard.
At this point, the grandmother is overwhelmed with tears and laughter, and the rest of us viewers are wondering if we could ever top such a sweet, awesome gesture.
