When Katie Deyes took her 16-year-old autistic brother to McDonald’s on Monday night, she didn’t expect an employee to go above and beyond to make their visit a special one.

In a Facebook post that has gone viral, Deyes recounts how an employee named Aled Griffith at the Mold, North Wales location recognized her brother Alex from the night before when he was there with his caretaker.

“The carer told us how Aled had encouraged Alex to order his own food and find the right money to hand over without rushing him,” Deyes wrote in the post.

When they returned, Griffith gave Alex an empty cup straight away because he remembered that Alex didn’t like to drink out of a bottle. He then brought over a new toy for Alex after Alex had received the same one he received the previous day.

“My brother loves collecting these toys so getting an extra, new one, was really exciting for him,” Deyes wrote.

After Griffith said goodbye to the family, Alex asked Deyes if they could return to dine in the restaurant instead of going through the drive-through. Deyes said she believes it’s because Griffith was so nice to them.

So, Deyes wanted to make sure Griffith got the recognition he deserved. Her Facebook post has been shared over 6,500 times and been liked over 52,000 times (as of press time).

“I know Alex, myself and all of his family and carer’s (sic) really appreciate how he was treated and looked after – taking him anywhere can be quite a difficult task, and we usually opt for the drive through option, but Aled made it fun and easy for us both to go in and for Alex to enjoy his meal without any funny looks or comments,” she wrote. “Aled is a credit to the Mold McDonald’s team (and McDonald’s as a whole) and I felt he deserved a mention and massive thank you hope this gets back to him! Here is Alex being very excited about his happy meal toys!”

The Mirror reports that news of Griffith’s good deeds reached the McDonald’s headquarters. A spokesperson said: “We are delighted with the consideration and thoughtfulness Aled has shown to Katie and her brother Alex. Aled is a valued member of the McDonald’s crew and is testament to the brilliant young people we employ up and down the country.”

They continued that Griffith’s franchise “will be in touch to ensure he is recognized for his kindness.”
