A Cincinnati, Ohio, cop got quite the surprise request recently when a mother goose went knocking at his door.
Officer James Givens was sitting in his police car when he heard a goose pecking on the door.
“It kept pecking and pecking and normally they don’t come near us,” he told WKRC Cincinnati. The goose was persistent, but Givens thought it was just hungry. However, when the goose walked away and looked back at him, that’s when he decided to follow it.
“Then it walked away and then it stopped and looked back so I followed it and it led me right over to the baby that was tangled up in all that string,” Givens said.
Ironically, the string belonged to a Mother’s Day balloon and was among other trash and litter near Mill Creek.
Givens and specialist Cecilia Charron called the SPCA, but no one was available to come, so Charron decided to help the gosling herself.
“Well she has a couple of kids of her own and I guess that motherly instinct must’ve kicked in because it was like they communicated. The mother goose didn’t bother her,” Givens told WKRC. “So Specialist Charron came and untangled it. It took her awhile because it was all wrapped up.”
Givens captured the incident on his cell phone because he knew it was a special moment.
Here’s to mothers helping mothers and perhaps people should remember human moms aren’t the only moms around.
