Mahmoud ElAwadi, and Egyptian Muslim from Orlando, Florida, made a powerful statement on Facebook about Muslims in America.

Deeply hurt and angered by the actions of Omar Mateen, the shooter who killed 49 people and injured 53 others at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, ElAwadi makes the point that terrorism “has no religion.”

He compares the attack to last year’s church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.

“In both attacks it didn’t matter what was the attacker color, his religion, his back ground cause (sic) lives were lost and they will never come back,” he writes on Facebook. “Terrorism has no religion, terrorism has no color, terrorism has no country.”

Just hours after the shooting, ElAwadi donated blood, along with hundreds of other Floridians, many of whom were waiting in line for hours and hours in order to donate.

He shared a photo of himself giving blood despite fasting for the holy month of Ramadan “just like hundreds of other Muslims who donated today here in Orlando,” he writes.

“Yes, I witnessed the greatness of this country watching thousands of people standing in 92 degree sun waiting on their turn to donate blood even after they were told that the wait time is 5-7 hours.”

His powerful message about togetherness resonated with hundreds of thousands online, as his post has been shared over 180,000 times and received heart-felt messages.

“Yes, our blood all look the same so get out there and donate blood cause our fellow American citizens are injured and need our blood,” he continues.

“Yes, our community in central Florida is heart broken but let’s put our colors, religions, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political views all aside so we can unite against those who are trying to hurt us.”
