After President Trump issued his executive order banning travel for foreigners from seven Muslim-majority nations, Nazanin Zinouri was unable to return to the U.S. — and her dog was without his owner.

The South Carolina-based engineer, who has been living in the U.S. for seven years, visited her family in her homeland of Iran in January. She was about to board an airplane back to the U.S. a few hours after Trump announced his controversial ban on January 27.

Officials at the airport in Tehran detained Zinouri and prevented her from returning home to the U.S. where her dog, Dexter, lived.

“No one warned me when I was leaving, no one cared what will happen to my dog or my job or my life there,” Zinouri wrote on Facebook on January 28. “No one told me what I should do with my car that is still parked at the airport parking. Or what to do with my house and all my belongings. They didn’t say it with words but with their actions, that my life doesn’t matter. Everything I worked for all these years doesn’t matter.”

As of February 7, her Facebook post received over 223,000 shares and 234,000 likes.

According to The Dodo, Zinouri’s friends and neighbors took care of Dexter while she was away, and them sent her updates and pictures.

On February 3, a judge issued a ruling temporarily blocking Trump’s travel ban — which meant that Zinouri could return home.

She was able to fly from Tehran to Frankfurt before boarding a plane to the U.S. where friends and family greeted her.

And of course, Dexter was also at the airport to greet Zinouri — and he was filled with joy to see his owner once again. It was an emotional reunion for the ages.
