‘Orange Is the New Black,’ ‘The Danish Girl’ Headline 2016 GLAAD Media Award Nominations

On Sunday, the GLAAD organization announced it’s nominees for the 27th annual GLAAD Awards.

Netflix original Orange Is The New Black is one of ten shows nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, along with ABC’s Modern Family and Transparent, among others.

In film, The Danish Girl, which stars Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne, is nominated for Outstanding Film – Wide Release, and will compete against Carol, Dope, Freehold, and Grandma.

In literature, Batman’s Harley Quinn is nominated for Outstanding Comic Book and will compete against Angela: Queen of Hel, Lumberjanes, Midnighter and The Wicked + Divine.

Speaking of the Joker’s crazy ex-girlfriend, the character, played by Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) can be seen in the highly anticipated Warner Bros. film Suicide Squad, coming in August. You can check out the trailer for it below.

According to GLAAD, the purpose of the media awards is to recognize and honor the media for their fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.
