Prince’s Ex-Wife: ‘He Was My Everything’
Prince’s first wife Mayte Garcia has poured her heart out after learning of the superstar’s death, insisting he is now with the child they lost.
The dancer who was the inspiration behind Prince’s hit “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,” is in mourning after the passing of the man she has called “my everything.”
Mayte was married to the “Purple Rain” star from 1996 to 1999. The couple actually wed and divorced on the same day, February 14.
In a statement released by her manager, she writes: “I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling. This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated.”
The couple’s son, Gregory, died a week after he was born with Pfeiffer syndrome in 1996. The condition is a rare genetic disorder that affects the skull.
Mayte adds: “I loved him (Prince) then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He’s with our son now.”
The seven-time Grammy winner was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley Park Studios compound in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday morning.
