Real Life ‘Fault In Our Stars’ Couple Pass Away Within Days of Each Other

Katie Prager, 26, half of the so-called “real life” Fault in Our Stars couple, has passed away only 5 days after her husband.

Prager and her husband Dalton, 25, first met in 2009 and bonded over both suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, similar to the main characters in the 2009 novel/2014 film. The couple wed in 2011, however health problems continued to dog them.

Both Dalton and Katie received lung transplants; he in 2014 and she in 2015. However they both continued to deteriorate. By this month they were separated, with Dalton hospitalized in St. Louis, while his wife was under hospice care at their Kentucky home. The last time they saw each other was their wedding anniversary, July 16.

Dalton Prager passed away earlier this month while in the hospital, the couple FaceTiming with each other as Dalton passed on. Just five days later, his wife passed away in her home.

Katie’s mother wrote about her daughter’s death on the couple’s Facebook page, saying in part, “Early this morning, she gained her wish of being at home, in her bed, surrounded by her mom, dad, brother and her dogs, dying peacefully, away from the hospital, tubes, IVs. I know Dalton was waiting with open arms, as well as both her grandmother’s and a host of family and friends that have gone before her. I know it is selfish to be sad, I had her so many days, but she is in the arms of Jesus today and she can breathe without oxygen, she no longer has to do dialysis and He has taken away all the pain she endured.”
