“What will you become?”
That’s the daunting question at the end of the first look at the next installment in Disney’s Star Wars franchise, a spinoff film titled, Rogue One. Watch the trailer:
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story tells a piece of the backstory prior to the first Star Wars film, A New Hope (or Episode IV), released in 1977. According to the IMDB page, Rogue One tells the story of a rebel fighter group that sets out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.
For the casual Star Wars fans out there, this is not a direct sequel to the latest film in the franchise, The Force Awakens.
Rogue One is one of at least two spinoff movies Disney has planned within the Star Wars universe. A solo Han Solo film is set for release in May 2018. That film will feature the iconic character, but will be a prequel to the original movies and feature a young actor in the role in place of Harrison Ford.
Rogue One stars Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) as Jyn Erso, Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal TV show), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), and Diego Luna.
The new trailer premiered on ABC’s Good Morning America early Thursday morning. ABC is owned by Disney, which also owns the films rights to Marvel Entertainment and the Avengers franchise.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story flies into theaters at the end of the year on December 16.
