The Secret to Growing Herbs in Your Apartment
We spend an endless amount of money at the grocery store trying to be as healthy and all-natural as possible. Summertime is right around the corner and we know your diet consists of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. But why buy herbs and vegetables from someone else when you can grow your own? Skeptical? Don’t worry. These tips will help you grow your own herbs, as well as help keep them growing and healthy!
If you find yourself in a major city and live in an apartment, it can often be difficult to make your dreams of gardening a reality. This makes it all that much more important to plan your herb garden in advance.
Be decisive and committed to the herbs that you choose, you don’t want to make all this effort for herbs that you won’t actually use or one’s that you don’t like. Unsure about what herbs you use the most? Begin keeping track with a food diary or just monitoring your meals will help you know which herbs you use most often.
After purchasing the seeds and the necessary equipment for your herbs, locate the proper place for them to grow. Since you probably have limited space, it’s largely dependent on how much window space in direct sunlight you have in your apartment. If needed, split your herbs up into multiple pots or place them on a porch or rooftop.
The most efficient way to save space is to hang your plants and herbs, but only do so if they can continue to get sunlight. Bookshelves are also a good way to utilize space while maintaining the accurate growth process for the herbs.
Although plants need sunlight, it’s needed in moderation and requires shade in the hottest summer months because too much exposure can damage, dry, or kill the herbs.
Once your herbs are ready to enjoy, pick off the fresh leaves and add them to some of your favorite dishes!
