Spotify and Genius Join Together for “Behind the Lyrics”

Fans of VH1‘s erstwhile hit “Pop-Up Video” now have a new site that will fulfill their desire for info nuggets.

Music streaming giant, Spotify, and Genius, the online knowledge base that is Wikipedia-for-music, have come together to create a new playlist called “Behind the Lyrics (Hip Hop).” This new playlist allows Spotify users to read tweets from the artists, news snippets, song lyrics and other related material.

The site will also feature playlists created by rapper Pusha T, DJ Diplo and singer Tinashe.

“I’ve partnered with Genius and Spotify to take you ‘Behind The Lyrics’ of my greatest songs because every word that I write means something to me,” said Pusha T. “Together we’ve found a way to bring my fans a deeper listening experience and raise the bar for songwriters.”

For now, users of the playlist can click to find out more information about song lyrics, writers, and meaning for Hip Hop songs. As of next week, Spotify is expanding to include Top 40 hits.
