If you are living on a budget, sometimes having your own apartment can be out of the question. But one YouTuber developed a clever idea to live in a place while saving some serious cash.
On January 12, YouTuber 007craft shared his experiences of living in a storage unit for two months with a viral video.
“I had just came back from hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and found myself homeless,” 007craft wrote on YouTube.
In the tiny 100 square-foot storage unit, his makeshift living space included basic amenities like a bed, a clothing rack, a mini refrigerator, a couch and a toaster oven. But, he also rigged several special tools to make his living arrangement easier.
During the storage unit living tour, 007craft showed off his moveable bar, a power cord that is tied across the hallway, retractable surround sound speakers, storage spaces on the ceiling and an antenna.
His plumbing consisted of a 25-liter container with tubes that send water into a bucket and filters into a separate container. He says that this plumbing lasts him a week before he has to get more water.
“I only spent around $100 making the space as efficient as I did, mostly because I already owned so much hardware,” he wrote on Facebook. “The cost of rent on my unit was $205 a month (which included insurance). A bargain, considering an apartment in the area was $1000+ a month.”
As of January 13, the storage unit living video received over 300,000 page views.
After two months, 007craft moved into a real apartment. He never got caught living in a storage unit.
This man’s video make it seem like living in one of these places is doable, however living in a storage unit is not safe and not legal. With that being said, storage unit living sure beats living in a car.
