There are few fruits more delicious than strawberries. Whether paired with waffles, spread over ice cream, or just eaten on their own, the succulent crimson berries are always a treat, especially when fresh.

Unfortunately, eating strawberries as soon as they’re bought is sometimes impossible. However, this one simple life hack fixes that problem and makes even weeks-old strawberries taste freshly picked.

The trick, originally shared by Hip2Share, is actually remarkably simple. First, mix one part white vinegar and five parts water in a large bowl, then simply soak the strawberries in the mixture for several minutes. After sufficiently soaking the fruit, throughly and completely dry them off before placing them on a paper towel in the fridge.

The vinegar solution — despite what you may think it won’t affect the taste — removes bacteria and mold spores from the fruit, which in turn makes them stay fresher much longer than they would otherwise. The method also can work for blackberries and raspberries.

Be sure to SHARE this hack with all the culinary connoisseurs you know.
