Making your backyard look professionally manicured isn’t as complex as you might think. There are simple ways you can utilize plants and design to make your yard look awesome. You don’t have to spend tons of money on professionals. You can do this yourself!
Check out some of the easy methods for making your yard look great!
Borders
Having defined borders always creates the appearance of a manicured lawn. Use hedges or shrubs, trim them into a shape you desire, and line them round a walkway or around the edge of the property. Remember to keep them trimmed so you don’t wind up with a forest.
Retainers
Cement blocks are perfect to create defined lines. Your backyard will look professional if you use a retainer around flower beds, essentially holding everything in. Not only does it look nice, but it will prevent erosion of the soil.
Focal Points
To really bring a look together, create a focal point. The focal point should be the thing all other backyard elements are based around. If you have too many focal points or large elements, your yard may look cluttered. Alternatively, instead of doing one big focal point, you can do several small ones by highlighting certain elements like trees or other plants.
Use Natural Materials
Whenever possible, try using natural materials like wood or rocks to create a more natural look as opposed to an industrial one. It can also look very modern.
Create an Island
Nothing looks more professional than island gardens. Just make sure to keep the edges clean.
Lighting
The right lighting can make for a super atmospheric look. When using your garden at night, lighting can create defined lines and highlight paths and important features.
Walkways
Defined walkways can make your backyard look cleaner and stunning.
Cleaning
Perhaps the best and simplest way to make your yard look professional, is to simply clean it up. This includes stray leaves, rocks, and even clutter like unused lawn furniture.
Plan It Before You Do It
Another simple way to achieve a manicured yard is to plan out everything before you do it. Granted, this only works if you’re starting with a blank state, but even if your yard already has elements in place, you can always try to work around it by planning beforehand. Create a map of where you’d like things to go.
