Kids today might be a little entitled, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to negotiate. Hey, even an 8-year-old knows what his pearly whites are worth. That’s what a surprised Waco, Texas mother learned after she received a request from her son addressed to the Tooth Fairy after he lost a tooth. The note was polite, but there’s no doubt that the son meant business.

“Dear Tooth Fairy,” wrote 8-year-old Hallister Senn. “I want a five dollar bill or hire [higher], besides I worked so hard to pull it out. From Hallister. Here’s your dollar. Have it under my pillow by afternoon.”

Elizabeth Senn, the boy’s mother, was taken aback by the request and decided to take a day or so to respond with something creative. Luckily, she came up with the perfect response.

“My name is Dee Kay. My associate Tooth Fairy told me about your letter and I have been assigned to your case, #092208-5,” Senn wrote to her son.

“One thing we do agree on and have taken into consideration, it was very bold of you to ask for more money,” she continued. “Since all your teeth have been cavity free we decided to increase our TPO (tooth pay out) by $1 for future extractions. This is with the stipulation the tooth is cavity free. Should you place a cavity filled tooth under your pillow you will receive a bill to cover our costs of flight travel.”

The boy was stunned to receive a response at all, let alone a raise. “I didn’t really expect her to respond,” Hallister Senn told ABC News.

The hardball response to Hallister’s letter has already led to positive results. His mother has said that her son has been much better about brushing his teeth, making sure that he’s cavity-free for the next magical visit from the Tooth Fairy.
