It’s easy to fall in love with our favorite characters from film and television. Sometimes, the best ones make us forget that there are actually people portraying them, and we come to believe the characters and the actor behind them are one and the same.
That obsession can sometimes lead us to make some strange decisions. Like flipping out on Twitter over seeing an actor at the Democratic National Convention.
Such was the case last night, when a cameraman seemingly in awe of actor Bradley Cooper being at the DNC kept focusing on him throughout the night. Cooper was present with his girlfriend Irina Shayk, and was very much into the proceedings of the night. He probably would not have noticed the outrage occurring in the Twitterverse by some conservative viewers stemming from the actor’s audacious attendance at the event.

What our friends on Twitter seem to forget is what I mentioned at the start of this story: Actors and characters are not one and the same. That means Bradley Cooper, to the dismay of many last night, is not Chris Kyle, the American combat veteran he played in the film American Sniper. Unfortunately for the wronged individuals, they expected Cooper to be a raging Republican, and not the long-time Democrat he actually is.
Of course, there must be a balance, so the rest of Twitter decided to chime in on the subject:

Listen, I get it. I had a little trouble dealing with the news of a new Joker in Suicide Squad because Heath Ledger as the villain was perfection in my opinion. With that being said, maybe deeper research into Cooper’s political views *cough* Google! *cough* would have avoided this messy situation.
