The job was posted by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, which is looking for a conservation and hedgehog specialist to “lead an ambitious project” in making Ipswich a hedgehog-friendly place. Apparently, Ipswich is a hot spot for the little guys so they are trying to do everything they can to ensure their safety.
Just because it has a cute title, though, doesn’t mean you should take this job lightly. It seems quite involved as the potential Hedgehog Officer is tasked with “leading and developing community-based conservation activities,” creating a “street by street network of hedgehog accessible habitat,” inspiring people to remove barriers in their gardens, and creating a friendly feeding, nesting, and hibernating environment across the town.
It doesn’t stop there, though. You also have to be a “digital native, excited by the opportunities technology can bring to nature conservation. You will be a pioneer in using these technologies to involve and inspire people – and will feed your data into national research programmes,” the listing reads.
