Summer unofficially kicks off each year with Memorial Day, a weekend of food, friends, barbecues, and of course, honoring those Americans who have sacrificed their lives in the military. One Vietnam veteran felt that firsthand when an unexpected surprise wound up on his car windshield.
The unidentified vet who goes by the Reddit username B4DILLAC posted an image of a crumpled up $10 bill and a note. On the post, B4DILLAC wrote, “I guess my Purple Heart plates gave it away,” he says, referring to his Texas state license plates with the veteran symbol on them. He continued, “Found this under my wiper blades. Thanks for lunch, wherever you are.”
The note he found was from another retired military veteran, who clearly wanted to show his appreciation for the Vietnam veteran’s service. The note reads:
“Lunch is on me, Soldier! Thank you for your dedicated service. From a retired Marine chopper pilot. Semper Fi.”
Though both veterans remain anonymous, it’s the spirit of giving and honoring those who have served that should be mirrored not just on Memorial Day, but every day of the year.
