While in line at a drive-thru at Dutch Bros. Coffee in Vancouver, Canada, customer Barbara Danner took a photo of a touching moment. Little did she know this moment, along with the photo, would go viral for the best reason ever.
Danner saw the woman in the car ahead of her speaking with Dutch Bros. employees and looking distraught. Soon, the employees and woman held hands and looked like they were praying. That’s when Danner decided to take a photo.
When it was her turn to approach the window, the employees explained what was going on. As it turned out, the woman’s 37-year-old husband passed away the night before.
Evan Freeman, Dutch Bros. employee, told Tucson News Now that he knew what he had to do.
“And as soon as she said that, I was like, ‘There’s nothing more you need to say. We got this. We’re going to do what we do every time we get someone who’s in pain or hurt. We’re going to give them our love.'”
Freeman and another employee, Pierce Dunn, offered the woman free coffee, reached out their hands, and prayed with her.
The moment might have gone unnoticed if Danner didn’t post the photo to Facebook, explaining the situation. The post has been shared over 125,000 times. It even got the attention of owner Jessica Chudek, who said, “I thought, ‘That’s great our company does that and we can show love out the window that way.’ I started studying it a little more and I said, ‘Wait, that’s Evan and Pierce! That’s my stand, those are my kids!’ So it just brought me to tears right then.”
Freeman and Dunn said the woman was extremely grateful for their kindness and generosity, but Chudek wasn’t surprised.
“We encourage them (employees) to pour love out of that window in whatever way is comfortable for them,” she told the The Colombian. “I don’t think this was a religious thing. It was just something this woman needed at that time.”
Freeman and Dunn told the woman was welcome to come back and pray anytime.
Snapped this picture while waiting in line at the Dutch Bros on 138th Avenue today. Turns out the young lady in line…
