It’s no question that being a waitress is hard. Constantly relying on other people to basically pay your wages sometimes doesn’t work out so well. However, there are those few instances when the kindness of strangers has gone above and beyond. Waitress Claire Hudson got to experience this first hand when her customer left her a 130 percent tip on a bill.
The Facebook group Love What Matters shared that Hudson was serving a couple at Mac’s Grub Shak in Spring Hill, Tennessee. As the couple left, they left a $36 tip on a $29.40 bill.
Hudson told ABC News that she didn’t even notice the tip until after they were gone.
“I would’ve liked to have caught them and said ‘Hey, this is awesome,'” she said. “They did it anonymously and it was really sweet.”
She then noticed a note left with the bill.
It read: “Today is my brother’s b-day. He would have been 36 today. Every year I go eat his favorite meal (hot dogs) and tip the waitress his age. Happy B-day Wes.”
Hudson revealed she was left in tears. “I was in tears when I read it. I had to go in the back of the restaurant and compose myself before I went out to my other tables.”
The waitress then posted a photo of the note to Reddit where it quickly went viral.
“When I woke up I was on the front page,” she said. “It had over 1.5 million views on Imgur and 350K upvotes on Reddit.”
She went on to say that she and the restaurant owner hope to find the couple and name a hotdog after the customer’s brother.
“We want to see what his brother Wes liked on his hot dogs because we’d like to name a hot dog after him,” she said.
