A quick-thinking hotel manager is being hailed a hero after saving a dog’s life.

Ben Duke, manager of The Roadway Inn in Greenville, South Carolina, had just stepped out of a store room when he noticed a guest boarding an elevator with a leashed dog traveling behind them. The pup named Boo Boo was too slow to catch up however, and the doors closed on the leash.

Fearing that Boo Boo might be strangled, Duke jumped into action. He grabbed the dog and was able to wrestle it out of the leash just in time, despite the animal’s struggles.

“I just grabbed it, and struggled with it, then I guess adrenaline set in or something, and I snapped the leash right above my hand,” he said.

Duke ended up suffering a small cut to his face from the dog, but that was a small price to pay for saving Boo Boo’s life.

Many including the dog’s grateful owner, were lauding Duke for his actions, especially after he posted video of the incident on Facebook and Youtube. However, he see’s things differently.

“Everybody is calling me a hero, but I can’t imagine the other outcome. I just did what you are supposed to do in this situation,” said Duke.
