Are hot peppers the new solution to cancer? Well Smokin’ Ed Currie, the founder of Puckerbutt Pepper Company, thinks so and he’s dedicated the last decade to growing the world’s hottest pepper.

The Puckerbutt Pepper Company aims to grow, harvest, and produce organic pepper products from hot sauces to seasonings. The company’s name is interesting to say the least, but the story of this unique company doesn’t end there.

Puckerbutt Pepper Company was established from Currie’s hobby of growing peppers at his home and, once he saw the demand, he began to form his own company. The talented businessman soon expanded his products to salsas, seeds, mustard, snacks, and jellies to accommodate the different interests of the customers.

After receiving national attention in November 2011 from an NPR Reporter, Currie gained recognition and even went on to win the Guinness World Record for the World’s Hottest Chili!

But what has largely propelled this spicy company is Currie’s claim that his peppers could save your life, even cure cancer. Currie, a skin and thyroid cancer survivor, has remained cancer free and he credits his peppers for being the cure.

Currie believes that the capsaicin, the pepper’s active ingredient which causes the burning sensation, is the secret to preventing cancer. He told CBS News, “I believe that peppers are one of the cures for cancer, I really do…I just don’t want to see anyone else die.”

Currie is so passionate about the link between his peppers and a cancer cure that he even donated half of his pepper harvest to cancer research. Not buying it? Well, Currie’s belief isn’t too far fetched! Research completed in the 2002 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute summarized that capsaicin and resiniferatoxin “kill cancerous cells by damaging their cell membranes…”

Although more research is needed to confirm the precise relationship between hot peppers and cancer cells, there is a lot of hope for future findings. But don’t get the idea that these peppers are average, even Currie warns his customers that not everyone can handle the spice!

So if you’re a daredevil and looking to spice things up, make sure to try some Puckerbutt Peppers because they may just save your life!
