Congratulations (Congratulations?) to Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog who was named the World’s Ugliest Dog at the 30th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California.
“Nine years young with a swaggering tongue, Zsa Zsa delivered a shower of slobber as she claimed this year’s title,” the competition said in a news release announcing her victory.
Zsa Zsa’s owner, Megan Brainard, brought her dog all the way from Anoka, Minnesota, for the competition. Brainard was awarded $1,500, a trophy, and a trip to New York after her girl claimed the title. While in Manhattan, Brainard and Zsa Zsa will be featured on The Today Show.
“We keep [her tongue] moist since it’s dry all the time, and use dog ChapStick for her lips,” Brainard told CNN. “Her favorite thing is to play with you and put that tongue on your face. It feels so weird.”
Below are some of the dogs that lost to (beat?) Zsa Zsa at the competition. They were just too cute, we suppose.
According to CNN, Zsa Zsa spent five years at a puppy mill in Missouri before being taken in by Underdog Rescue, a nonprofit organization that provides shelter dogs with “care, training, and compassion.”
“From the moment we saw her beautiful face, we knew we would be her forever home,” Megan and Jesse Brainard said, according to the contest’s website. “We are so excited for her. She deserves this.”
Last year’s winner, pictured below, was Martha, a Neapolitan Mastiff.
