Empire State Building Bows to Islam

The Empire State Building was lit green on July 17, something that most people would never bat an eye at, but due to the recent shooting at a Chattanooga military recruitment center, many are outraged with the building’s decision to run those colors.

They’re upset because the green lights were in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the celebration that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The celebration happened to be one day after Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez walked into two separate military recruitment centers and killed four people – a fifth person died two days later – before police gunned the man down.

Commentators are furious with the Empire State Building ownership – and for some unexplained reason with President Barack Obama – for running the colors despite the tragedy just 24 hours earlier and the alleged link the killer had with the Muslim faith.

The Right Wing news site, Breitbart.com, asked, “Wouldn’t it have been appropriate and respectful for the owners of the Empire State Building, in honor of our fallen heroes, if they had to commemorate Eid at all, to drape the Empire State Building in red, white and blue?”

Other commentators decried that the Empire State Building “caves in” to Islam to honor the agreement the ESB organization had with the organization that filled out the “Lighting Partner application” on the company’s website.

And while the Breitbart article did acknowledge that the ESB lights up for “Christmas, Easter, and Hanukkah,” it made the claim that “the religions are not equivalent” because “Christians aren’t slaughtering people worldwide in the name of Jesus,” nor are Jewish people killing in the name of HaShem.

The article finally acknowledges that “not every Muslim is responsible for jihad attacks, but until Muslim communities in the U.S. start fighting actively against the jihad doctrine that justifies all this violence, Islam shouldn’t be celebrated.”

The article makes no mention of the hundreds of killings perpetrated by Christians every year worldwide. Oh well. That’s unimportant, we guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
