Marvel Finally Explains Thor’s ‘Civil War’ Absence in Hilarious Mockumentary Short

When Captain America: Civil War smashed its way into box offices nationwide this year, Marvel pitted hero against hero in a battle royale that brought most of the Avengers team into the fight. Absent from the battle, however, was the Hulk, who flew off into hiding at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Thor. But it seems now we may finally know where the Norse God was: hanging with his new roommate.

On Sunday, Marvel unveiled a short mockumentary showing that while Captain America and Iron Man pummeled one another, Thor, instead of easily flying in to assist his fellow Avengers, was off finding himself a new flat in Australia with mild-mannered Darryl, learning the routine of the standard “nine to five” job, and just getting some “me time.”

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) starts by explaining his new living situation Down Under and that he sensed something was amiss between Iron Man/Tony Stark and Captain America/Steve Rogers.

“Darryl here is helping me craft an electronic letter I’m writing to Captain America and Iron Man,” explains Thor. “There seems to be something very intense going on between them and I want to offer my help, my services. ‘Dear Tony Stark. How’s it going? I hear you and Captain America were having some relationship problems.'”

Later, it’s revealed Thor does not carry a cellphone and has increased difficulty getting in touch with his fellow heroes. He does suggest Iron Man communicate by “sending a raven.”

Outside of spending time with his new roommate pal, Thor says that he’s still trying to piece together the significance of the Infinity Stones, the powerful items that have appeared in most of the Marvel movies and will be a key plot point for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movie.

Thor even has time to grab a latte with Hulk’s alter-ego, Bruce Banner, who, unlike Thor, is receiving constant calls to come join the “Civil War.”

The funny short was helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi and is included on the home video release of Captain America: Civil War, which is available to purchase Sept. 2.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters Nov. 3, 2017.
