You Might Be Dead But Your Facebook Page Will Live On

So, there you are dead and thinking, “How can I update my Facebook page from the great beyond?” If you set up your “legacy contact,” your Facebook page will live on for as long as there is Facebook. Sounds creepy doesn’t it? Well, it is but since when has creepy ever been a problem for Facebook?

Before you slip off these mortal coils, you merely have to go to your account settings, click on “Security” and you’ll find an option to add a legacy contact. This will become your formerly designated dead status updater. That person can post to your timeline, update the profile pictures and, most importantly, respond to friend requests. Show of hands: How many of you would like to be friends with a dead person?

“By talking to people who have experienced loss, we realized there is more we can do to support those who are grieving and those who want a say in what happens to their account after death,” so says Facebook.

Sadly, your legacy contact won’t be able to post as the dead person. That would have been fun. Plus, your legacy contact won’t be able to access all your private messages. Now that would have been really fun!
