One woman’s viral Facebook post has people cheering after she shared an anonymous couple’s gesture of kindness toward a victim of the devastating floods in Louisiana.

In the post shared by Facebook page Love What Matters, Allison LaCombe Welch describes a scene that took place in a Walmart in Marksville. Welch was third in line behind an older woman checking out and a middle-aged couple in front of Welch.

“Well I noticed the woman checking out had almost every basic item you could need: shampoo, conditioner, tooth paste, tooth brush, hair brush, a couple of pairs of shoes, some clothes, basic make up items….,” wrote Welch.

She describes not thinking much of the elderly woman’s items in her shopping cart, but noticed the total was over $350. What happened next touched Welch deeply.

“The man in front of me asked her ‘Are you sending this stuff to flood victims?’ And the woman said, ‘Actually sir, I am a flood victim, I lost everything I own and didn’t have time to even grab my purse. There is water up to my roof. I’m staying here with my daughter until I can figure things out.'”

According to Welch, without hesitation, the man handed the cashier his credit card to pay for the woman’s entire purchase. Understandably, there were tears.

“She cried, his wife cried, and then I cried,” wrote Welch. “It was so touching to see someone be so selfless, especially in this trying time for Louisiana! Pay it forward.”

Out of tragedy, there is always hope.

According to AvoyellesToday.com, Marksville received 12.6 inches of rain in a 24-hour period over the weekend, just one town in the region affected by the flooding that has so far claimed 11 lives.
