According to the nonprofit group Together We Rise, 1,200 children enter foster care each day in the United States. Often through no fault of their own, these children are left without a guardian. They can feel lost and alone during those weeks or months they spend in foster care, but that moment when they are finally adopted is likely one of the most joyous moments of their lives.

At Together We Rise (TWR), those moments are captured for posterity on the organization’s Facebook page. TWR shares images of the children with some quick facts about the kids, including how long the child had been in foster care. At times, the numbers are astronomical, hitting almost 1,500 days. Sometimes more. It’s heartbreaking to think these children have been without someone they can call mom or dad for years. However, when you see their faces with the knowledge and hope that they are now going to a loving family, it can certainly brighten your day.

TWR’s mission is “transforming the way youth navigate through the foster care system in America.” Helping these children find forever homes is just one of the many things they do.

“We brought Anthony home at 5 days old. He was a tiny 5lb 10oz. He spent 21 months in our home and has brought us nothing, but joy. There are always ups and downs when fostering children and working with the system. But the end reward far outweighs the challenges. Our family would not be complete without our little fireball!” — Anna from TWR’s Facebook page.

“Adoption has changed my life because through it I have two children of my OWN. Foster care is a road like no other, and is one I pray less and less children and their families have to experience. My daughter’s and son’s losses because of foster care and adoption are not ones I take lightly or dismiss. I recognize the weightiness of how I came to be called ‘mommy’ today. And I recognize I have a BIG job to do in parenting these two children with different foster care stories, races, biological families and needs. But I wouldn’t want anyone else doing this job.” — Sara from TWR’s Facebook page.

About Together We Rise:

Together We Rise is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of motivated young adults and former foster youth. Our vision is to improve the lives of foster children in America, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public. We collaborate with community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system.

TWR works with hundreds of foster agencies, social workers, CASA advocates, and other partners to bring our programs to foster youth across the nation. Our foundation has allowed us to provide thousands of foster youth across the country with new bicycles, college supplies, and suitcases so that children do not have to travel from home to home with their belongings in a trash bag.
