Motorists in Halifax, Va., recently learned that their local police department is equipped with a very healthy sense of humor.

In a video originally posted on Facebook by Chief Kevin Lands, an officer pulls over a woman and asks her if she knows why she was stopped.

The woman, clearly confused, says she does not. The officer asks her if she is familiar with “Vehicle Code 1.7.3.9.”

The driver, appearing concerned now, answers that she is not.

Fortunately for her, this particular local law, according to the officer in the video, states that “It’s actually against the law to drive on a hot day without an ice cream cone.”

The driver and her young passenger immediately shift from scared to relieved, bursting into uncontrollable laughter as the officer hands ice cream to them both.

Kudos to the Halifax Police Department. When they pull pranks, they don’t mess around, and they make drivers’ days a little bit sweeter.
