Coldplay and Beyoncé debuted their stunning music video for “Hymn for the Weekend” early Friday morning, perhaps giving a little preview into their Super Bowl 50 halftime show.
The video, featuring Chris Martin and Beyoncé, was shot on location in Mumbai, India back in 2015. Martin sings from the rooftops of buildings and heads to a movie theater, while Beyoncé takes on the role of the film star who is plastered on Television sets and billboards across the city. She is seen wearing beautiful dresses, jewelry, and henna tattoos.
In the background the band can be seen covered in colors traditionally seen during Holi, the Indian celebration of colors and love. Ben Mor directed the video, which also features Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor.
A story to tell my grandkids! I was in a @Coldplay video! Woo hoo! #biggestfan https://t.co/gY2r9orAnq

While the video is getting praised for its stunning artistry, not everyone is thrilled with the duo’s portrayal on India and Indians.

@coldplay don't exoticize us. You've been to the clubs and everything. Why do you want to make it seem like all we do is dance in the streets

Just gonna throw this out there, if Beyoncé&Coldplay are PROFITING from a culture that isn't there's and gaining praise, it's appropriation

The video comes just a few weeks before Coldplay and (possibly) Beyoncé plan to take the stage during Super Bowl 50. Bruno Mars is also expected to make a guest appearance.
“Hymn for the Weekend” is the latest single off Coldplay’s new album A Head Full of Dreams. The band recently announced dates for a seven-city North American tour, kicking off at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Before arriving in the US, the British band plans to play shows in Latin America, Europe, and Argentina.
