In another episode of “Dogs are living, breathing miracles,” a golden retriever has been rescued after suffering under rubble for nine days.
On August 24, a devastating earthquake struck central Italy that flattened buildings in the region and killed over 300 people. The canine in question, Romeo, was found four days ago when his owners returned to the scene of their totaled home in Villa San Lorenza a Flavione, just outside Amatrice. Like any desperate pet owner would undoubtedly do, they began to shout the dog’s name upon reaching the rubble. According to Italian newspaper Latina Quotidiano (The Latin Daily), the owners began to hear barking.
Immediately, firefighters were summoned and before long, Romeo was out, a bit shaken but no worse for wear.
Amazing how he was able to survive trapped for nine days, but again, who are we to doubt the incredible abilities of man’s best friend?
