If it seems like Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine in the X-Men movies forever, well this time, time has really caught up with the character.
On Thursday, Hugh Jackman and 20th Century Fox unveiled the first trailer for the third standalone Wolverine movie, Logan. Watch:
Not unlike their real-life counterparts, Wolverine and Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) have aged considerably in Logan, but the trailer also reveals the likely direction the franchise will go after the film with the introduction of a young girl who is teased to be just like Logan. Plot details from IMDB reveal:
“Set in the future of 2024, Logan and Professor Charles Xavier must cope with the loss of the X-Men when a corporation lead by Nathaniel Essex is destroying the world leaving it to destruction, with Logan’s healing abilities slowly fading away and Xavier’s Alzheimer’s forcing him to forget. Logan must defeat Nathaniel Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney, a female clone of Wolverine.”
In the comics, Laura Kinney is the character known as X-23 and Nathaniel Essex is the name of one of the X-Men’s most fearsome foes, Mr. Sinister.
Logan is reportedly Jackman’s last time in the role. Along with Jackman and Stewart, the film stars Boyd Holbrook, Doris Morgado, Sienna Novikov, and Stephen Merchant.
Logan premieres in cinemas March 3, 2017.
