When Joey Wagner first met Mojo at an animal shelter, he had no idea that he would be giving this dog a forever home.
Mojo is a pit bull and American Staffordshire terrier mix and was brought to the Baie Ste. Marie Animal Society in Nova Scotia when he was 3 months old. The small puppy was suffering from Demodectic Mange, a skin disease that is caused by tiny parasites in the hair follicles. The puppy was also abused, dehydrated and starving — leaving him with a very uncertain future.
After arriving at the shelter, Mojo was immediately taken to the vet by Wagner. At the animal hospital, Mojo received excellent care and made a strong recovery. However, he was not put back on the adoption list due to the side effects of his condition.
The treatment caused Mojo’s fur to stop growing and the dog is now required to wear a t-shirt to protect his sensitive skin. Luckily, Wagner, who works at the Baie Ste. Marie Animal Society, saw the sweetness in Mojo and decided to adopt him and give him a forever home.
Check out Mojo and Wagner’s amazing reunion at the animal hospital below.
Mojo hopes his story can shed a light on animal abuse and teach others that recovery is possible. Mojo’s fur never grew back, but the dog is living a happy and healthy life with Wagner.
