The all-too-outdated tradition of the woman doing the chores while the man doing the hard work comes to a halt in this single mother’s home.
A mother of two from Monroe, MI actively teaches her young son the valuable lesson of household work, whether it be mowing the lawn or doing the laundry, and her message has gone viral.
“I teach my son to cook & do household chores,” writes Nikkole Paulun on Facebook. “Why? Because household work isn’t just for women.”
Paulun uploaded photos of her son cooking (grilled cheese, we presume), tending to the dishwasher and doing laundry, along with a lengthy message taking pride in what she teaches her son and advising other parents to follow suit.
And when the young man isn’t being responsible, he partakes in an activity many children his age enjoy – video games.
“It’s okay to let your child be a child but still teach them lifelong lessons along the way.”
Taking from her words, Paulun apparently has taught her boy how to not only do laundry and cook, but also refrain from constantly eating take-out, tie a tie and even pay taxes. These are things she believes will make him “a productive member of society both outside the home and inside.”
She refuses to let her son grow up to think he is “too manly” for household tasks many still believe are a woman’s job.
“Remember parents, a man who believes he shouldn’t have to cook or do chores was once a boy who was never taught any better.”
Whether or not readers agree with her, her message has certainly reached a huge audience and we hope most, if not all, agree on the important life lesson of growing up to be able to take care of yourself on your own.
