Waiting for a subway can sometimes be a pain, however this traveler found a way to make it a delight for everyone around her.
Tymara Walker, a professional singer from Las Vegas, was visiting Washington D.C. and decided to make her wait in the Metro station a little more entertaining. Walker began singing “O Holy Night” and blew away the crowd who was waiting in the station.
“The acoustics are great,” Walker told the Washington Post, “and I thought I’d give it a try.”
Walker’s daughter recorded her performance and uploaded it to Facebook — where it quickly went viral with over 325,000 views.
Walker is an on-call performer in the Michael Jackson ONE Cirque Du Soleil show and has previously worked as a backup singer for Gladys Knight. With her previous musical history, it only makes sense that she rocked her impromptu subway performance.
“People started to clap and cheer,” Walker told the Washington Post. “Everyone was smiling. One lady was wiping tears. It was really beautiful.”
The response to Walker’s performance keeps growing, touching people worldwide.
“I honestly can’t believe it’s being viewed and shared so many times,” Walker wrote to Your Daily Dish. “Of all of the performances and shows and venues here in Vegas, it’s THIS simple little video that manages to touch people from LITERALLY everywhere!”
She continued, “I feel honored that so many people felt a little holiday cheer for 56 seconds, our country needs a break! I shared it because I love the song, and because we were having a great weekend visit as a family and I was just happy about where my life is now. So I asked my daughter to record it on my phone. I posted it right before I went to sleep early Sunday morning. I woke up to CRAZY notifications on my phone.”
The singer even got a follow from President Obama on Twitter after the White House saw the video. Hopefully, the viral video will open up a new door for Walker and her singing career.

“All of my struggles and accomplishments are working together to show my children that no dream is too big. I went from singing in little churches in Toledo and Detroit to flying on the moon in the Michael Jackson ONE show for Cirque,” Walker said to the Washington Post. “So mommy just needs to win this Grammy … so we can bring it full circle!”
