Here comes the bride…dressed in divorce papers?

15-year-old Demi Barnes created a wedding dress made entirely out of divorce papers for her school art project. The teenager, who attends Lingfield Notre Dame School in West Sussex, England, originally wanted to create the dress out of magazine cutouts, but didn’t have enough cutouts. She decided to use divorce papers because she felt that she could make a statement with it.

In an interview with ABC News, Barnes stated, “I wanted to create a wedding dress with meaning.”

“For me, the dress represents that too many people rush into marriage and end up getting divorced. I love the irony of the idea. I constructed the bodice with wire and then folded the papers and stapled them on,” Barnes added.

Barnes posted photos of the infamous dress on Facebook, where it gained over 47,000 likes and nearly 1,500 shares.

Barnes’ dress was also the talk of her school.

“Demi’s wedding dress is the talk of the school,” said Barnes’ headmaster Richard Bool. “I am extremely proud of the work Demi and the entire art department have achieved this academic year. It is also a pleasure to see the power of social media working for a student in a positive and responsible way.”

Currently, the dress is on display at the school. When asked what Barnes plans to do with the dress, she joked, “My mum would like it at home, but it’s not an easy thing to move around, and we’d probably need to remove the front door!”
