In an attempt to provide a little humor to the epidemic of clown sightings across the U.S., the Dartmouth Police Department released a video public service announcement regarding the situation. As opposed to dropping a serious PSA with just the facts, the department decided to do something a little more creative.

The video starts out with an officer answering to a call of a clown sighting. A mother tells him that her daughter was scared by a man “dressed in blue overalls” trying to lure her into the woods. The officer assures the woman that he will find the man.

After driving around he finds what looks like a demonic version of Luigi from Super Mario standing alone at the edge of the woods. The officer asks the clown whether he was the one trying to scare the children, to which the clown responds with a challenge: “Maybe I was, maybe I wasn’t? What are you gonna do about it, huh?”

This is where the video takes a turn for the comedic. The officer gets out of the car, and again the clown provokes him. Watch what happens:

In true “clown car” fashion, what seems to be the entire police force follows the officer, one by one, out of the SUV and surround the clown. Realizing he made a big mistake, the clown raises his arms in surrender.

And while the PSA does keep things light, it does show the seriousness of the problem and the show of force the Dartmouth P.D. are willing to resort to in order to combat it, as Detective Kyle J. Costa states in the end of the video: “Remember, if you want to act like a clown, we have no problem treating you like one.”
