On Sunday, people around the country commemorated the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Like every year, Americans pay tribute to our military forces, pay tribute to those who died in the attacks, and remember those first responders who bravely ran toward the burning towers while others ran away. As part of the national day of remembrance, New York City beams 88 searchlights into the sky for several evenings around the Sept. 11 anniversary. The two vertical columns of light shine bright into the metropolitan’s skyline and now stand along the finished One World Trade Center.

As we remember 9/11 on the 15th anniversary of the historic day, here are the best images from this year’s Tribute in Light.
