With the cold weather coming in strong, the annual battle for control of the thermostat becomes a popular argument in many families.

Kids feel the need to put the temperature up without thinking of putting a sweatshirt on first, quickly sending their parents hard earned money down the drain. However, it looks like one family from Michigan may have found a common ground when it comes to controlling the heat.

Autumn Brandon posted a picture of a list of rules that each of her family members must follow before they touch the thermostat.

Before daring to raise the temperature, each family member must answer three simple questions:

  1. Are you wearing a hoodie, pants, socks?
  1. Is it November?
  1. Do you pay the gas bill?

The comical picture quickly went viral with 80K likes and 7,000 shares (as of time of press). The reaction shocked Brandon, as it was meant to be a joke between her family members.

“First and foremost, it was meant as a joke between myself and my kids,” Brandon shared with Today.

While some commenters on the internet saw Brandon’s methods as a little harsh, she is able to laugh it off.

“My only regret was my spelling error. There is no autocorrect with a pencil,” she shared. “I’m a humbled mom here in Clarkston just trying to keep energy costs low.”
