Budgeting can be difficult, especially when trying to stick to a healthy diet. There’s no doubt organic foods are the best for you, but they also tend to be more expensive. Luckily, you don’t need to buy all organic to keep a well-balanced diet containing plenty of nutrients to power you through the day.

Grab your grocery list and add these healthy food options that are good for you and won’t break your budget.

Fruit: Fruit is often perceived to be too expensive, but items like bananas and prunes are reasonably priced. Bananas have a large amount of potassium and are considered a mood-boosting food source. Prunes also have healthy benefits such as 0% fat, which can help lower blood sugar.

Oatmeal: Buying a large amount of oatmeal is highly recommended because it lasts a long time and can accommodate any meal or recipe. Oatmeal is rich with fiber and full of antioxidants to help your immune system and regulate blood pressure.

Tuna: Tuna is extremely cheap and doesn’t require much preparation. It’s also extremely versatile, a healthy source of protein, and is a natural source of energy.

Vegetables: Similar to fresh fruit, many believe that veggies are overpriced but items such as broccoli, carrots, and celery tend to be the most affordable. These vegetables contain vitamin K, which improves both bone and skin health, along with a host of other vitamins and minerals.

Nuts & Seeds: Peanuts and sunflower seeds are very inexpensive and make for a healthy snack option. Nuts and seeds are important to your diet because they contain protein and fiber and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Yogurt: Whether it’s regular or Greek, yogurt is usually inexpensive and important to a well-balanced diet. Yogurt contains good bacteria and calcium to help strengthen your bones.

Beans: Beans are important to a balanced diet and are the cheapest form of protein you can buy. Beans contain antioxidants and vitamins which help your heart, balance your blood sugar, and are low in fat.
