This year has seen far too many loved ones lost to suicide, most recently a 13-year-old boy in Staten Island, and an organization in Phoenix, AZ hopes to prevent as many as possible in the future.
The Commit Campaign is dedicated to raising suicide awareness and sparking a conversation around the sigma associated with metal health – and their message is going viral.
“Creating a community where we can speak freely about mental health and suicide prevention,” is their mission and social media is their vehicle.
The idea, created by Kelsey Oney and Christinia Tetreault, locals who survived suicide loss, is a platform to speak without judgement about suicide prevention, mental illness, loss and survival.
You make a pledge on your social media account to join. Participants have the option to either share a personal story or commit to one of the pledges listed, such as Oney’s “taking responsibility for the words she speaks and knowing that they have an impact on the people around her.”
