Leonard Cohen died in his sleep following a fall at his home, according to the late singer/songwriter’s manager.

The beloved poet died earlier this month, but his death wasn’t reported until after Cohen was buried in Quebec.

Now his manager Robert Kory has released a brief statement, revealing the cause of death.

It reads: “Leonard Cohen died during his sleep following a fall in the middle of the night. The death was sudden, unexpected and peaceful.”

Cohen released his final studio album, You Want It Darker, last month.

Talking about his unfinished work in a recent interview with the New Yorker, the “Everybody Knows” singer suggested his life was coming to an end, stating, “I don’t think I’ll be able to finish those songs. Maybe, who knows? And maybe I’ll get a second wind, I don’t know… I am ready to die. I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.”

At an album launch party in Los Angeles a week later, Cohen told fans he was being philosophical, adding, “I’ve always been into self-dramatization. I intend to live forever.”
